Pinwheel Home is the closest thing to Tin Can at a lower price, from a company that already made kids’ smartphones. Its free tier only reaches other Pinwheel Homes, and the $6.99 plan caps outside numbers at five.
Ooma MyPhone has the widest retail footprint and Ooma’s long history as a home-phone carrier. There is no free tier; the $7.99 service is required from day one.
Wiley is the newest entrant and, to its credit, the only other one letting you plug in a phone you already own, through a separate adapter. It is still pre-launch as we write this, with an unpublished adapter price and a $9.95 plan.
Ring Ring Club is the lowest cost of entry on the list, the only one where using your own phone is the $59 starting point rather than an add-on, and the only one with a $0 plan that ships in stock today. Looking for a Tin Can alternative in Canada?
Ring Ring Club ships to Canada with duties paid at checkout, so nothing is collected at the door. The $59 Bridge (use any phone you own) and the $75 Modern Kit both ship; the Nostalgic Kit is not sold in Canada. Plans are the same $0/mo between Ring Ring families and $8.95/mo for a full number, with a Canadian phone number and 9-1-1.
